Skrillex!

The Music Of Interest: Part 1 – Skrillex!

The artist I have chosen to write about is Skrillex. I have chosen to write about Skrillex because he is a well-known artist of this era and has had a lot of musical history for his age. Skrillex (Real name, Sonny John Moore) was born on January 5th 1988 and in 2004 he began touring with Alternative/Punk band, From First to Last as their lead singer. During his time of being with this band he released 2 albums named Heroin (2004) and Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count (2006) although in 2007 Sonny decided to leave From First to Last being that he was unhappy in the band, his fans didn’t like this choice but he still decided to pursue with it and went solo as just “Sonny Moore” he released 2 EP’s named Bells (unofficially released) and Gypsyhook (2009) then went on to be known as Skrillex and released 4 EP’s My Name Is Skrillex (2010) Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (2010) More Monsters and Sprites (2010) Bangarang (2011) he also has done various remixes for artists such as Bring me the Horizon, Rob Zombie, Lady Gaga, Twin Atlantic and Nero. He has also been featured in other people’s albums such as Nu Metal band KoЯn’s latest album “Path to Totality” which he was in 2 songs for, “Narcissistic Cannibal” and “Get Up”.

The song I have chosen to write about by Skrillex is “Do Da (Oliphant)”. The reason I have chosen this song is because it is a favourite of mine that he has constructed and it’s also a very interesting one to talk about being almost completely electronic and perfectly put together.

I like the way that he has put this song together and built it up, and when you think it’s about to finish, the beat hits right back in and makes you want to dance even more, also the fact that it makes you happy and want to have a good time is a very crucial thing in the song, I think this because if there was nothing to it, like a few simple beats was repeated all the way through the song it would be completely different to how it would be if not much thought and passion was put into the song. However, What I dislike about it is the fact that the song isn’t long enough, because I do really love that song, but then again, that can also be argued that that’s what makes the song perfect, because of the fact it’s not too short and not too long, it’s just the right length to get the audience to want to listen to it over and over again, like an addiction.

In Conclusion Skrillex (Sonny) is a good music artist, and despite the fact his music is all mostly done by a computer, it is still well constructed and he is still a very good artist, so I think everyone should at least give him a try and if it isn’t your cup of tea…well, at least respect that he is passionate about what he does.
